Jasper Debrabander is currently working on a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Heidi Mertes. He is affiliated with both the Bioethics Institute Ghent (BIG) and the interdisciplinary Metamedica Platform of Ghent University. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Medicine (2015), a Master in Philosophy (2018), a Research Master inPhilosophy (2020) and worked a year for the Belgian Cancer Registry (2019-2020).
In his PhD he investigates how emerging technologies (e.g. Artificial Intelligence, Patient Decision Aids) might affect patient autonomy in oncological care. Being trained as a philosopher of science, he is especially interested in how normative choices in the development phase of these technologies might affect patients’ autonomy.
