Wannes Van Hoof

Wannes Van Hoof is a postdoctoral researcher and former secretary of the Bioethics Institute Ghent. He obtained a Master’s degree in Philosophy and a Master’s degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology (Catholic University of Leuven). He completed his PhD in Philosophy at Ghent University in 2014. His current research focuses on the ethics of paediatric clinical trials. His research is part of a larger research project which aims to promote safe paediatric clinical trials. Currently almost half of the drugs that are prescribed for children were never tested on children. Given that drugs can have very different effects on children and the importance of long term follow up in paediatric populations, it is important that paediatric clinical trials are performed. However, testing children poses specific ethical challenges.
